Width: 60 cm or slim 45 cm?
A standard dishwasher is 60 cm wide and holds 12–14 place settings, enough for a family's whole day of dishes. A slim 45 cm model holds 9–10 settings and fits small kitchens; it costs about the same as a 60 cm one here (about €440–760 freestanding), so only go slim if space forces you to.

Freestanding or built-in?
A freestanding dishwasher has its own top and front and stands anywhere near water and a drain. A fully integrated (built-in) one hides completely behind a kitchen door panel; a semi-integrated one shows its control panel above the door.
