How to choose a laptop in Cyprus

Pricely team · Updated 18 October 2026 · How we pick

For school, office work and streaming, most people are happiest with a Core i5 or Ryzen 5 laptop with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. In Cyprus that costs about €600–900 right now. If you already use an iPhone, a MacBook Air from about €1,000 is the easy choice.

Only pay for a gaming laptop if you will really play games on it: they are heavier, louder and their batteries run down faster.

And the same laptop is often €50–300 cheaper at another store on the island, so pick the model first, then check who sells it cheapest.

Not sure? Go one row up from where you think you are. A laptop lasts five years or more, and what feels fast today feels slow in year three.

Processor, RAM and storage in plain words

Processor. Intel Core i5 / Core 5 and AMD Ryzen 5 are the sweet spot. The "3" versions are fine for light use; the "7" and "9" versions are for heavy work. Apple's M chips are fast, quiet and last all day on battery.

RAM (memory). 16 GB is the right amount for most people today. 8 GB works, but slows down with many browser tabs open, and on most thin laptops you can't add more later.

Storage. Make sure it is an SSD, not a hard drive. 512 GB is enough for most people; 256 GB fills up fast with photos and apps.

Screen. 14" is the best balance for carrying every day; 15.6" and 16" are nicer for work and films but heavier in a bag. Look for "Full HD" (1920×1080) or better, and an IPS or OLED panel.

Mac or Windows?

A MacBook Air is the easy choice if you already have an iPhone: messages, photos and passwords just work, and the battery lasts a full day. The MacBook Pro is for video and heavy creative work, and costs a lot more.

Windows laptops cost less for the same size, give you far more choice and run every program and game. For business, Lenovo ThinkPad is the classic pick; for everyday use, look at HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Dell and Acer.

Gaming laptops

The graphics card matters more than anything else: look for an NVIDIA GeForce RTX (RTX 4050, 4060 or 50-series). A laptop without one will struggle with modern games, whatever the processor.

Popular ranges in Cyprus stores are ASUS TUF, HP Omen and Lenovo Legion 5. See every gaming laptop we compare; a decent one starts at about €1,300 here.

Mistakes we see people regret

  1. Buying 8 GB of RAM to save €50, then living with a slow laptop for years.
  2. Paying for a gaming laptop that only ever runs a browser.
  3. Choosing a 17" laptop and then never carrying it anywhere.
  4. Not checking the keyboard layout: some laptops sold in Cyprus have a Greek or UK keyboard, others a US one.
  5. Buying at the first price they see. The same model can be €50–300 cheaper elsewhere, so compare laptop prices in Cyprus before you pay.
