How to choose a phone in Cyprus

Pricely team · Updated 18 October 2026 · How we pick

If you already use an iPhone, stay with an iPhone: your photos, messages and apps move over in minutes. Otherwise a good Android phone costs far less. In Cyprus right now a solid Redmi Note or Galaxy A costs about €200–300, a flagship like the Galaxy S26 about €700–950, and the iPhone 17 about €1,000.

Whatever you pick, get at least 128 GB of storage. And check the price at more than one store: the same phone is often €50–200 cheaper elsewhere on the island.

What your money gets you here

BudgetWhat you getLook at
Under €250A big screen and a battery that lasts the day; slower and a simpler camera.Galaxy A17, Redmi Note 15
€250–500Faster, a better camera and more years of updates.Redmi Note 17, last year's Galaxy S25
€700–1,000The best cameras, the fastest chips, 7 years of updates.Galaxy S26, iPhone 17
Over €1,000Pro cameras, or a phone that folds.iPhone 18, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8

A good trick: last year's flagship, like the Galaxy S25, often costs about the same as a new mid-range phone and is better in almost every way.

iPhone or Android?

Stay with what you have unless you really want a change. Moving between iPhone and Android works, but WhatsApp chats, photos and paid apps take some effort.

iPhone gets updates for many years, keeps its value well when you sell it and works best with a Mac, iPad or Apple Watch. Our guide to which iPhone to buy compares the current models.

Android gives you far more choice at every price. Samsung is the safe all-rounder, Xiaomi gives the most phone for the money, and Google Pixel has some of the best cameras.

How much storage?

Storage can't be added later on most phones (and never on an iPhone), so choose once:

  • 128 GB is enough if your photos go to the cloud (iCloud or Google Photos).
  • 256 GB is right for most people who keep photos and videos on the phone.
  • 512 GB or more only if you film a lot of 4K video or keep films and music offline.

The jump from 128 to 256 GB usually costs €20–130 here. Compare that with a year of cloud storage before you decide.

Does 5G matter in Cyprus?

Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel all run 5G in the towns, so a 5G phone is faster there. But a 4G phone still works everywhere for calls, WhatsApp and video. Almost every phone over €200 has 5G now; it is only worth checking on the cheapest models.

Mistakes we see people regret

  1. Buying the 64 or 128 GB version and running out of space within a year.
  2. Paying for a new flagship when last year's model costs hundreds less.
  3. Not checking how many years of updates the phone gets: cheap phones often stop after 2–3 years.
  4. Buying at the first price they see. The same phone can be €50–200 cheaper at another store.
