How to choose a mobile plan in Cyprus

Pricely team · Updated 18 October 2026 · How we pick

For most people in Cyprus an unlimited 5G plan is the right choice: the cheapest is Primetel GIGA Unlimited 5G at €14.99 a month, only €3 more than the cheapest plan with a data cap (Epic 5G Max Value, €11.99 for 5 GB).

Mostly on Wi-Fi and under 5 GB a month? The capped plan is enough. New to Cyprus or not sure about coverage where you live? Start with a €10 prepaid SIM for a month, then sign a contract.

Three questions settle it:

  1. How much data did you use last month? That's unlimited or capped.
  2. Do you want a contract? That's pay monthly or prepaid.
  3. Do you also need home internet? Then check the bundle price first.

Unlimited or a fixed amount of data?

The dilemma: pay for unlimited, or save a few euros with a data cap.

The rule: open your phone's settings (Mobile data on Android, Mobile Service on iPhone) and look at last month. Pick by your busiest month, not an average one. Under 5 GB, a capped plan saves you about €36 a year. Above that, go unlimited: about six in ten contract customers in Cyprus already have.

What it costs: unlimited plans run from €14.99 (Primetel GIGA Unlimited 5G) to €32.80 (Cyta FREEDOM max) a month, so the same "unlimited" can cost twice as much. Compare every mobile plan in Cyprus.

Contract or prepaid?

The dilemma: a monthly contract, or a top-up SIM you can stop at any time.

The rule: prepaid is the cheapest way in and the best way to test coverage at home before you commit. Every operator has a €10 top-up that lasts about a month, with up to 60 GB (Primetel Pay As You Go Combo €10), and Cablenet Prepaid Always On 30 gives unlimited data for €10. A contract makes sense when you want full 5G speed, calls abroad or the operator's home internet discount.

Watch out: a prepaid top-up runs out after its days (28 to 31), not at the end of the calendar month.

Not every "unlimited" plan is the same

The fear: paying for unlimited and getting slow data.

The rule: check the speed line. Cyta's FREEDOM plans cap data speed at 10 Mbps (FREEDOM) and 30 Mbps (FREEDOM plus); only FREEDOM max has full 5G speed. 10 Mbps is fine for maps, messages and music, and slow for video calls and big downloads.

Calling family abroad? Some plans include international minutes: Primetel GIGA Unlimited 5G MAX (€18.99), Primetel International Traveller 5G (€22.99), Epic 5G Unlimited Max Plus (€24.99), Cablenet 5G Unlimited Max (€25). Roaming inside the EU costs the same as at home on every plan.

Offers and contract length

The regret: a great first-year price on a contract that's hard to leave.

The rule: look at the contract length and what happens after the offer. Epic's offer prices come with a 24-month contract. Cablenet 5G Unlimited Max starts with free months, then costs €25 a month. Our comparison shows the price you pay now and the operator's usual price next to it.

Switching operator? You can keep your number: ask the new operator to move it. If you leave a contract early, your old operator may charge for the months left, so check the date first.

Mobile plus home internet

The dilemma: cheapest mobile plan here, cheapest internet there, or both from one operator.

The rule: if you need home internet too, price the pair. Epic's fibre costs about half with an Epic mobile plan, and Primetel's fibre is €5 a month less with a Primetel mobile plan. See home internet plans with the "with a mobile plan" switch, or read how to choose home internet.

Questions people ask

How much mobile data do I need?

Check last month in your phone's settings and pick by your busiest month. Under 5 GB a month, mostly on Wi-Fi, a capped plan from €11.99 is enough; above that, unlimited starts at €14.99 a month.

What is the cheapest unlimited mobile plan in Cyprus?

Primetel GIGA Unlimited 5G, at €14.99 a month for unlimited data, minutes and SMS.

Is prepaid cheaper than a contract in Cyprus?

For light use, yes: every operator has a €10 top-up for about a month, and Cablenet Prepaid Always On 30 has unlimited data for €10. Contracts add full 5G speed, calls abroad and discounts on home internet.

Can I keep my number if I change operator?

Yes. Ask the new operator to move your number when you sign up. If you are still in a contract, your old operator may charge for the months left.

Which operator has the best coverage in Cyprus?

All four have 5G in the towns. Coverage in villages and the mountains differs, so ask neighbours or test with a prepaid SIM for a month before you sign a contract. Cyta has the most customers, about half of all mobile users.
