For a family of three or four, an 8–9 kg washing machine is the right size; it costs about €430–780 in Cyprus right now. Spend on the load size you need rather than on extra programmes, and check more than one store: the same model often costs a different amount across the island.
Pick the load size
The load (kg) is how much dry laundry fits in one wash. Bigger costs a little more but means fewer washes:

Almost all washing machines are 60 cm wide and 85 cm high. Depth varies from about 45 cm (slim models for tight spaces) to over 60 cm, so measure the depth, including room for the door and the hoses.
Spin speed, energy label and noise
A higher spin speed (1,400 rpm) leaves clothes drier. That matters less in Cyprus, where washing dries outside most of the year; 1,200 rpm is plenty unless you use a dryer.
The energy label runs from A (best) to G and shows kWh per 100 washes, plus water use and spin noise. An inverter motor is quieter and tends to last longer, worth it if the machine is near the bedrooms or in an open-plan flat.
Washer-dryer or a separate dryer?
No space for a line or a balcony? A washer-dryer (about €500–820) does both in one machine, but dries only about half a wash load at a time. A separate tumble dryer (about €650–1,050) dries a full load faster and better. If you buy a dryer, a heat pump model costs more to buy but uses far less electricity than a condenser dryer.
Hard water in Cyprus
Most of Cyprus has hard water, and limescale is what shortens the life of most washing machines here. Use the detergent dose for hard water, run a hot cleaning cycle every month or two, and descale now and then. Machines with an automatic dosing system save detergent but cost more.

Bosch washing machines and LG washing machines have the most models here, followed by Samsung. Midea and Hisense win on price. For a washer-dryer, LG washer-dryers have the widest choice.
